Unicef's first greetings card was a painting by seven-year-old Jitka Samkova, whose village in Czechoslovakia received Unicef emergency assistance in the form of food and medicine following World War II. Jitka sent Unicef her painting as a way of thanking Unicef. The cards' popularity inspired a global sales operation generating significant revenue to help Unicef save and protect the world's most vulnerable children.
